The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

Pandemie COVID-19 zpomalila činnost v řadě hospodářských odvětví a zároveň výrazně proměňuje mocenskou konstelaci ve světě. Z tohoto důvodu se EU snaží formulovat vhodnou strategii, díky níž by mohla zaujmout významnější roli v globální ekonomice. Její součástí mají být opatření, která podpoří posílení mezinárodní úlohy eura, zvýší odolnost infrastruktur finančního trhu EU a zlepší uplatňování sankcí vůči třetím zemím.
Evropská komise v této souvislosti představila sdělení s názvem Evropský hospodářský a finanční systém: podpora otevřenosti, síly a odolnosti, jehož cílem je vytvořit lepší předpoklady pro to, aby se Evropa stala předním aktérem celosvětového hospodářského a finančního systému, a ochránit při tom EU před nepoctivými a nekalými praktikami třetích zemí a tamních podniků. Obsahu sdělení bylo věnováno veřejné slyšení, které v rámci přípravy stanoviska na toto téma uspořádal Evropský hospodářský a sociální výbor (EHSV).
Slyšení se zúčastnila poslankyně Evropského parlamentu Danuta Maria Hübner, která vypracovala zprávu o posílení mezinárodní úlohy eura. Ve svém proslovu zdůraznila, že „v důsledku geopolitických změn a globálních výzev, k nimž patří i pandemie COVID-19, vyšlo jasně najevo, že je nutné zvýšit odolnost hospodářství EU“. Dále uvedla, že „k posílení mezinárodní úlohy eura by mohla přispět větší likvidita finančního systému v EU, která by mimoto pomohla snížit zranitelnost vůči případným budoucím krizím“.
Tomasz Wróblewski, zpravodaj stanoviska EHSV Evropský hospodářský a finanční systém: podpora otevřenosti, síly a odolnosti, shrnul nejdůležitější závěry diskuse slovy: „Chceme-li posílit mezinárodní úlohu eura, musíme přijmout důrazná a nekonvenční opatření. Bude to mít zásadní význam pro nastartování růstu naší ekonomiky po skončení pandemie.“ (dgf)
