The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

V rubrice „Představte si Ukrajinu“ zveřejňujeme fotografie zachycující válku v této zemi a její následky. Tato svědectví často přinášejí novináři, neboť právě oni se vydávají na místa, kam se my nedostaneme, aby zachytili události, o nichž bychom se jinak nedozvěděli.
Do tohoto vydání nám dodala vlastnoručně pořízený snímek Jowita Kiwnik Pargana, polská novinářka, zpravodajka při Evropské unii a autorka celé série reportáží z Ukrajiny. Připojila k němu také pár slov.
Zatímco se tady probírám fotografiemi, dopadají na Kyjev, Lvov, Dnipro, Charkov a Záporoží ruské rakety jako Putinova odplata za útok na Krymský most. Fotka, kterou jsem vybrala, je tak bohužel opět aktuální. V tu noc se kvílení sirén rozeznělo ve dvě hodiny. Oleksij Kolomijec, biatlonista a bývalý olympijský reprezentant z dob Sovětského svazu, který byl jedním z těch, kdo na olympiádě v Moskvě v roce 1980 nesli pochodeň, probudil svou rodinu. Všichni seběhli do sklepa, v němž Oleksij zřídil kryt. Vybavil jej koberci, dekami, přikrývkami, spacáky a zásobami potravin a pod matraci schoval zbraně. Jeho žena Ljudmyla a její vnuk usnuli schoulení na pohovce. Oleksij zůstal sedět na zemi a držel stráž. Poplach trval hodinu. Na druhý den ráno se sirény rozhoukaly znovu, takže se – jako již potolikáté v poslední době – museli nasnídat ve sklepě. Od 24. února jsou protiletecké kryty součástí každodenního života Ukrajinců. Jako kryty slouží mnohé stanice metra a podzemní prostory nemocnic, divadel a škol. Někteří Ukrajinci si stejně jako Oleksij udělali kryt ve svých domech.
