Objective(s):On 20 June 2000, CECED notified a self commitment (the agreement) dated 19 November 1999 committing most of its members to improve the energy efficiency of household dishwashers. CECED has applied for an exemption under Article 81(3) of the EC Treaty. Pursuant to its Guidelines on the applicability of Article 81 of the EC Treaty to horizontal cooperation agreements (in particular environmental agreements), the Commission indicated in 2001 its intention to take a favourable view towards the notified agreement. The self commitment basically covers three sets of objectives concerning: production and imports of domestic dishwashers; monitoring and reporting; promotion of technological development as well as consumer awareness. It is open to new participants and was valid until 31 December 2004.
