    The 3rd meeting of the EU and the Vietnam Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs), "DAG-to-DAG meeting", established under the Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) chapter of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, took place on 27-28 November 2023. The event will start with a workshop on Improving workers' rights and access to remedy and grievance mechanisms, and the agenda of the meeting itself included discussions on due diligence, on the situation for small coffee producers and farmers in Vietnam, on the implementation of the Vietnamese Work Plan on Labour Rights and the state of play of the ratification of ILO fundamental conventions by the EU member states and Vietnam, on the right to association as an essential element of chapter 13, and on aquaculture welfare and responsible and sustainable fisheries.

    Connecting EU 2023

    Let's talk about elections: in the run-up to 2024, already being dubbed "the World Cup of elections", given the number of polling stations people will be heading to across the world, the EESC's flagship annual event for civil society communicators will focus on the vote for the new European Parliament

  • In view of the next Belgian and European elections, the EESC, in partnership with the Brussels Commissioner for Europe and International Organisations, brings together staff from across European institutions and Belgian representatives to discuss the participation of European civil servants in Belgian life.

  • Thematic debate on the rural pact #3

    In the context of the European Gender Equality Week and as part of its section meeting, the NAT section will host a public debate on gender equality and youth in rural areas.

  • 32nd meeting of the European Economic Area Consultative Committee

    The EEA CC met for the 32nd time in Brussels on 21 November 2023. Highlights of the agenda:

    • Labour market and mobility in the EEA
    • Presentation of the European Parliament's report on EU-Switzerland relations
    • Presentation of the EESC’s information report "The Arctic – how to ensure a peaceful, sustainable and prosperous future for a geostrategic region"
  • Extraordinary Workers' Group meeting

    The meeting will address AI-related issues with a focus on a just digital transition in the morning. In the afternoon session participants will explore ways in which sustainable competitiveness and investment can be achieved for the well-being of EU citizens.

  • The 12th meeting of the EU-Georgia Civil Society Platform (CSP) will be convened on 17 November 2023. During the meeting, a debate will focus on assessing the implementation of the priorities outlined by the European Commission and the state of play of the implementation of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement/DCFTA. The Platform will also discuss the digital transition in Georgia, as well as legal and practical issues of labour migration in Georgia and in the EU.

  • On 17 November 2023, the Permanent Group on Sustainable Food Systems (PG) and the Sustainable Development Observatory (SDO) of the EESC will hold a joint meeting on the theme "Sustainable food systems as drivers for the implementation of the SDGs" to bring together members of the two EESC bodies and representatives from the European Commission and other stakeholders from the agri-food chain.

  • The EU-Serbia Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) will held its 16th meeting on 17 November 2023 in Belgrade, Serbia. It is a platform established within the institutional framework of the EU‑Serbia Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), enabling representatives of both the EU and the Serbian civil society to monitor the country's accession negotiations, discuss issues of common interest and point out concerns to be tackled on the Serbian path towards the European Union.

    Organised civil society: an active guarantor of the twin transition and participatory democracy

    The 2023 annual meeting of the presidents and secretaries-general of the national Economic and Social Councils (ESCs) of the European Union and the European Economic and Social Committee was held on 16-17 November 2023 in Madrid (Palacio de Fernán Núñez). The topic of the debates was "Organised civil society: an active guarantor of the twin transition and participatory democracy".
