The Anti-Money Laundering Legislative Package

The Anti-Money Laundering Legislative Package

In spite of the efforts made by the EU and many governments and the entry into force of major European legislative acts, the scale and impact of money laundering remains very high and poses a clear threat to citizens, democratic institutions, and the financial system. The EESC has since long called to step up the fight to curb money laundering as a matter of urgency.

The conference "The Anti-Money Laundering Legislative Package" will take stock of the state of play and debate in particular the legislative proposals tabled by the European Commission in July 2021 to strengthen the EU's anti-money laundering and countering terrorism financing (AML/CFT) rules. These proposals include amongst other elements the creation of a new EU authority to fight money laundering, a full application of the EU AML/CFT rules to the crypto sector, and EU-wide limit of €10,000 on cash payments.

The conference is organised on 5 October 2021, starting at 14:30. No registration is needed and participation is free of charge.

The event is accessible via webstream.
