The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Kohezijska politika je bistvena za premagovanje krize zaradi COVID-19, doseganje podnebne nevtralnosti do leta 2050 in zmanjšanje razlik v Evropi. Evropski ekonomsko-socialni odbor (EESO) v nedavnem mnenju opozarja, da je najresnejši izziv v bližnji prihodnosti vojna v Ukrajini.
Hitro je treba ukrepati, da bi pomagali beguncem in zagotovili evropsko povezovanje Ukrajine. EESO v svojem mnenju tudi poudarja, da odločno podpira čimprejšnjo pridružitev Ukrajine EU, in poziva k ustrezni prilagoditvi kohezijske politike in njenih instrumentov financiranja.
Odbor zlasti predlaga ustanovitev ločenega sklada EU za spodbujanje povojne obnove in razvoja. V mnenju, ki ga je sprejel na majskem plenarnem zasedanju, obravnava sporočilo Evropske komisije o poročilu Kohezija v Evropi do leta 2050.
Poročilo je bilo objavljeno dva tedna pred rusko invazijo na Ukrajino, zato v njem niso upoštevane njene posledice. Poročevalec Krzysztof Balon je dejal: „Največji izziv v kratko- in srednjeročnem obdobju za kohezijsko politiko je ruska agresija na Ukrajino, ki je v resnici hkrati dejanje agresije zoper Evropsko unijo.“ Soporočevalec Gonçalo Lobo Xavier pa je dodal: „Kohezijska politika je še vedno temeljni instrument za okrevanje in odpornost evropskega gospodarstva, pri čemer je treba posebno pozornost nameniti malim in srednjim podjetjem.“ (tk)
