Il-politika ta’ koeżjoni hija kruċjali biex tingħeleb il-kriżi tal-COVID-19, tinkiseb in-newtralità klimatika sal-2050 u jitnaqqsu d-disparitajiet fl-Ewropa. Opinjoni reċenti tal-KESE twissi li l-aktar sfida serja għaliha fil-futur prevedibbli hija l-gwerra fl-Ukrajna.
Hija meħtieġa azzjoni rapida sabiex jiġu mgħejuna r-refuġjati u tiġi żgurata l-integrazzjoni tal-Ukrajna fl-Ewropa. Fl-Opinjoni tiegħu, il-KESE enfasizza wkoll li huwa favur ħafna li l-Ukrajna tissieħeb fl-UE mingħajr dewmien, u appella sabiex il-politika ta’ koeżjoni u l-istrumenti finanzjarji assoċjati jiġu adattati kif meħtieġ.
B’mod speċifiku, il-Kumitat jissuġġerixxi li jinħoloq fond separat tal-UE li jiffaċilita r-rikostruzzjoni u l-iżvilupp wara l-gwerra. L-Opinjoni, adottata fil-plenarja ta’ Mejju, tanalizza l-Komunikazzjoni tal-Kummissjoni dwar ir-rapport tagħha dwar Il-Koeżjoni fl-Ewropa sal-2050.
Ir-rapport ġie ppubblikat ġimagħtejn wara l-invażjoni tar-Russja fl-Ukrajna – u għalhekk ma jqisx il-konsegwenzi tagħha. Ir-relatur Krzysztof Balon qal: “Fuq terminu qasir u medju, l-akbar sfida għall-politika ta’ koeżjoni hija l-aggressjoni Russa, li fil-fatt hija wkoll att ta’ aggressjoni kontra l-Unjoni Ewropea”. Il-korelatur Gonçalo Lobo Xavier żied jgħid li: “Il-politika ta’ koeżjoni għadha strument fundamentali għall-irkupru u r-reżiljenza tal-ekonomija Ewropea, u għandu jkun hemm enfasi partikolari fuq l-SMEs”.
