The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Za razvoj trdnega in odpornega zdravstvenega sistema in sistema oskrbe v Evropski uniji potrebujemo izobraženo, sposobno in motivirano zdravstveno osebje. Naši sistemi oskrbe in zdravstvenega varstva morajo biti osredotočeni na ljudi, njihove pravice in potrebe.
To pomeni tudi, da bi morali ljudje sodelovati v vseh ustreznih razpravah, posvetovanjih in odločitvah. Če bodo ti pogoji izpolnjeni, bomo lahko dosegli zdravstveno varstvo, osredotočeno na človeka in dostopno vsem, ter „pravico do zdravja“, kot je priporočila Konferenca o prihodnosti Evrope. Samo tako bomo lahko vsem Evropejcem zagotovili enak in trajnostnen dostop do cenovno dostopnega, preventivnega, kurativnega in kakovostnega zdravstvenega varstva.
EESO v nedavno sprejetem mnenju na lastno pobudo Strategija za zdravstveno osebje in oskrbo za prihodnost Evrope (SOC/720) poziva k ustanovitvi evropske službe za nadzor zdravstvenega osebja, ki bi državam članicam pomagala vzpostaviti in vzdrževati strukture načrtovanja ter usklajevati čezmejne vidike načrtovanja. To bi bilo povezano s svobodo gibanja zdravstvenih delavcev in negovalcev. Odbor predlaga tudi posodobitev akcijskega načrta za zdravstveno in negovalno osebje v Evropski uniji, ki vključuje integrirano načrtovanje in napovedovanje potreb po zdravstvenem osebju in negovalcih, ter posodobitev znanj in spretnosti delovne sile v zdravstvu in dolgotrajni oskrbi, zlasti da bi lahko izkoristili priložnosti, ki jih ponuja digitalizacija.
