The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

The topic of the European Consumer Day 2024 was "Water challenges: Exploring consumer perspective - Moving ahead on the EU Blue Deal". This covered, on one side, consumer protection in terms of ensuring access to water at an affordable price, including vulnerable consumers, touching also upon the aspects of water quality and quantity. On the other side, it involved water-efficient consumption, with a focus on changing consumer habits in order to make the water consumption more sustainable, making use of innovative tools and technology.

This conference in Athens is the third event on disinformation being hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) as part of its ongoing project aiming to fight disinformation with the help of civil society.
The EESC will organise two side events at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity - COP16 which this year will be held in Cali, Colombia from 21 October to 1 November 2024. The side events will be on Towards a circular economy in harmony with nature and on Mainstreaming biodiversity in climate action: the role of nature-based solutions.
Competitiveness is a key priority of both the Hungarian Presidency and the new von der Leyen Commission for the next political cycle. The issue will be addressed with our members and members' organisations at the extraordinary Group meeting on 8 October in Budapest. The debate will focus on the agri-food and industrial sectors.

This years' meeting of the EESC's Western Balkans Follow-up Committee outside of Brussels took place on 15 October 2024 in the Europe House in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and will include a hearing with the social partners and civil society organisations (CSOs).
The goal of the hearing was to listen to the views on the role of civil society in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as to hear their concerns, and to convey these messages to the political authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina and of the EU.
As in the previous years, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will actively take part in the annual United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP29, which this year will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024.
