Fl-aħħar plenarja tiegħu, il-Kumitat Ekonomiku u Soċjali Ewropew kellu dibattitu mal-Kummissarju Ewropew McGuinness dwar kif tista’ tinkiseb sistema ekonomika u finanzjarja Ewropea aktar ekoloġika, aktar sostenibbli u aktar diġitalizzata.
Matul il-Plenarja ġew adottati għadd ta’ Opinjonijiet fi sforz biex jgħinu jwittu t-triq għal UE verament sostenibbli. F’Opinjoni fuq inizjattiva proprja, il-KESE jipproponi li jiġu żviluppati sensiela ta’ indikaturi ġodda biex jikkomplementaw il-PDG u jgħinu fit-tranżizzjoni. F’Opinjoni oħra, il-KESE jappoġġja l-għan li l-investimenti jiġu orjentat mill-ġdid, iżda huwa tal-fehma li l-biċċa l-kbira tal-miżuri proposti tal-KE fl-istrateġija mġedda tagħha dwar il-finanzi sostenibbli spiss jidhru wisq eżitanti u ma jqisux il-kunċett kritiku tas-sostenibbiltà soċjali. Barra minn hekk, it-tassonomija tal-UE ma tħaddanx għanijiet ambjentali u soċjali b’mod ugwali u tħalli dubji dwar ċerti attivitajiet ekonomiċi kontroversjali. Fl-aħħar nett, f’Opinjoni oħra, il-KESE jilqa’ l-idea ta’ Standard Ewropew għall-Bonds Ekoloġiċi volontarju ġdid, u jagħmel rakkomandazzjonijiet kritiċi dwar kif dan jista’ jinbidel fi strument verament b’saħħtu biex jgħin lill-investituri jidderieġu l-investimenti fi proġetti li għandhom impatt pożittiv fuq l-ambjent.
