Ar leibhéal na hEorpa, tá tábhacht thar meán leis an gcomhar agus is mór idir sin agus an claonadh a thugann orainn cúbadh chugainn féin taobh thiar de bhrat an náisiúnachais agus an údarásaíochais. Is fíor go bhfuil an comhar idir stáit thar a bheith tábhachtach i dtreo is gur féidir an víreas a chomhrac, ach tá tábhacht nach beag leis freisin chun aghaidh a thabhairt ar na cúiseanna atá leis an víreas agus ar na hiarmhairtí a leanann, go háirithe ós rud é go mbeidh paindéimí an lae amárach – ach oiread leis an truailliú, leis an athrú aeráide nó le géarchéim na bithéagsúlachta – beag beann ar theorainneacha. Tá luamháin chumhachtacha ag an Eoraip lenar féidir a chinntiú go mbeidh leas an phobail i gcroílár fhorbairt na mór-roinne. Trí fheabhas a chur ar an gComhaontú Glas, ar an gComhbheartas Talmhaíochta agus ar an gCreat Airgeadais Ilbhliantúil, d’fhéadfaimis na tionscadail Eorpacha agus náisiúnta a atreorú d’fhonn an Eoraip, atá ar thús cadhnaíochta sa domhan, a sheoladh ar chonair lena gcruthófar domhan ar féidir linn maireachtáil ann.
Ní haon dóithín é tús áite a thabhairt don chomhar seachas don iomaíocht ó leibhéal an duine aonair go dtí an leibhéal idirnáisiúnta. Taibhsítear dúinn ar uairibh gur fusa ár leas féin a chosaint. Agus an cathú seo romhainn, caithimid a mheabhrú dúinn féin gur sinne a bheidh caillteach leis má ghéillimid don mheon gearrthéarmach sin: fillfidh an feall orainn mar a bheadh búmarang ann! Ní fhacthas a leithéid de ghéarchéimeanna riamh roimhe seo agus tá dúshlán ollmhór romhainn; mar sin ní rithfidh linn aghaidh a thabhairt orthu más ag feidhmiú inár n-aonar a bheimid.
Ní rachaidh mé i leith ná i leataobh leis an ngairm chun gnímh seo mar sin: má táimid chun na géarchéimeanna seo a shárú caithfimid ár mianta leithleacha féin a fhágáil i leataobh agus oibriú i gcomhar le chéile ar son an leasa choitinn. Tugaigí aire daoibh féin, do bhur muintir, do strainséirí atá i ngátar, don domhan beo atá thart timpeall oraibh, agus déanaimis iarracht ár bhfuinneamh a chaitheamh ag iarraidh an lámh in uachtar a fháil ar na géarchéimeanna nua seo.
