The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Za odmik od nacionalističnega zapiranja in avtoritarnih teženj je odločilnega pomena sodelovanje na evropski ravni. Skupna prizadevanja držav so nujna, če naj bi ustavili širjenje virusa in odpravili vzroke zanj ter njegove posledice, saj tudi prihodnje pandemije, tako kot onesnaževanje, podnebne spremembe in slabšanje biotske raznovrstnosti, ne poznajo meja. Evropa ima na voljo močne vzvode, s katerimi lahko splošni interes znova postavi v središče razvoja celine. Če bomo izboljšati zeleni dogovor, skupno kmetijsko politiko in večletni finančni okvir, lahko dosežemo bistveno preusmeritev evropskih in nacionalnih projektov in financiranja, da bo Evropa, prva svetovna sila, lahko ustvarila svet, v katerem je vredno živeti.
Dajanje prednosti sodelovanju namesto konkurenci, tako na individualni kot mednarodni ravni, ni lahka naloga. Veliko udobneje je zagovarjati lastne interese. Ob takšni skušnjavi se moramo spomniti, da nam kratkoročna vizija škodi: povrnila se bo kot bumerang s hudimi posledicami. Kriza je zgodovinskega pomena, izziv se zdi ogromen in sami ga ne moremo obvladati.
Moj poziv je zato jasen: za izhod iz krize pozabimo na egoizem in sodelujmo v splošnem interesu. Pazite nase, na svoje drage, na neznance v stiski, na svet, v katerem živite. Poskusimo izkoristiti našo energijo za to, da bi našli izhod iz sedanje krize, kakršne še ni bilo, in postali še močnejši.
