Sport helps meet the EU’s strategic objectives, brings to the fore key educational and cultural values and is a conduit of integration, since it is open to all members of the public, regardless of their gender, ethnic origin, religion, age, nationality, social situation or sexual orientation. Sport is a tool to tackle intolerance, xenophobia and racism. The principle of good governance and sound management should ensure integrity in sporting competitions.

The public hearing will explore how sport can strengthen European values such as mutual respect, social integration and equality between men and women. Examples of initiatives, which use sport to bridge differences and foster a sense of community will be presented. The aim of the hearing is to draw lessons from such initiatives and suggest new ways to make sport a vehicle for integration in Europe.

'The integration of young migrants in the European society'

The European Integration Forum – the dialogue platform on integration of immigrants – met for the ninth time on 4-5 June 2013 in the EESC premises. The theme of this meeting was: 'The integration of young migrants in the European society'.
