In order to prepare its opinion on the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) proposal by the European Commission, the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on 13 January 2022 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.
The aim of the event is to discuss the proposal and gather input from other EU Institutions, civil society, social partners and health professionals, which will feed into the EESC's opinion.

LMO remote public hearing
On 26 November 2021, the EESC's Labour Market Observatory will hold a remote public hearing on A Just Transition for workers of European industries: fostering opportunities for reskilling and upskilling.
The green and digital transition have brought many challenges and opportunities for the EU industry. Investment in skills is essential to support the twin transition and to contribute to a fair recovery. The event will examine, through a discussion with civil society organisations and socio-professional stakeholders, how to ensure a just transition for workers of European industries, taking into consideration the need to strengthen opportunities for reskilling and upskilling. The event includes a webinar taking place in the context of the series of EESC events related to the New Industrial Strategy.

As part of its work to prepare an opinion on ''Social dialogue as a tool to promote health and safety at work'', the SOC Section of the EESC is organising a virtual public hearing on Wednesday 17 November 2021, from 09:30 a.m. to 13:00 p.m.
Various stakeholders from all levels (national and European institutions, agencies, social partners and civil society organisations) will be invited to share their views and recommendations on this important topic. This includes for instance social partners' agreements negotiated on occupational health and safety, joint guidelines on promoting positive wellbeing at work, including measures to prevent illnesses, exposure to dangerous substances and workplace accidents.

The EESC is organising a public hearing on "The right to make decisions: advancing the issue of Legal Capacity for persons with disability" on 15 November 2021.
The aim of the event is to:
- show the cross-cutting nature of legal capacity, and how not being entitled to it has repercussions on different areas of life
- reflect on which steps the EU could take to make progress on legal capacity

Fundamental rights and the rule of law
The conference will cover developments in the EU in the area of fundamental rights and the rule of law in 2020-2021. It will offer a space for dialogue amongst stakeholders, in particular the ones which contributed to country visits led by the EESC Fundamental Rights and Rule of Law (FRRL) Group in 2020-2021 and to the first two European Commission Rule of Law Reports published in 2020 and 2021. The discussions during the day, including in parallel breakout sessions, will focus on the four key themes which structure the European Rule of Law Mechanism: Justice, Media, Corruption, Checks and balances.

In order to prepare its own-initiative opinion, the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on "Towards a new care model for the elderly: learning from the Covid-19 pandemic" on 27 October 2021.
The aim of the event is to gather input from other EU Institutions and civil society organisations.
We will debate around the following questions:
- Which are the structural causes that have led to the elderly care systems to become some of the most contagious and lethal factors of this pandemic?
- What are the strengths and weaknesses of the various care models in the EU?
- Which are the civil society perspective and proposals for a new care model for the elderly?

In the context of the own-initiative opinion on Volunteers – Citizens building the future of Europe, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is organising a remote public hearing on Monday 20 September 2021. The aim of the hearing is to gather the points of view of social partners and other civil society organisations, experts and coordinators of projects related to volunteering, on the topic, and to hold a discussion on the impact of civil society trends for volunteering and the current state of play of volunteering at European level.
