EESC online consultation of civil society organisations on the EU Voluntary Review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The first ever EU-level Voluntary Review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will take stock of EU’s internal and external implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Such reviews are one of the main follow-up and review mechanisms for the 2030 Agenda at global level.

The EU’s Voluntary Review will be presented at the 2023 UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

As part of its follow-up and review architecture, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development encourages Member States to “conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and subnational levels, which are country led and country driven”, which should be "voluntary, state-led, undertaken by both developed and developing countries, and involve multiple stakeholders".

The EESC will contribute to the Commission's voluntary review by providing a civil society's perspective, principally based on adopted opinions relating to the "main achievements" and "main challenges" in the implementation of each of the 17 SDGs. To complement its assessment, the EESC would like to gather inputs and views of the civil society organisations working on the agenda 2030.

If you are a civil society organisation and you want to share your views on the EU’s internal and external implementation of the SDGs, you are invited to submit your contribution in this online consultation.

Please keep your contribution to 750 characters maximum for each input. The final EESC document will have between 8 to 9 pages, so key messages and brevity are required. An acknowledgement of the organizations that have contributed into the process will be included. As the EESC input into the EU voluntary review is expected in early January 2023, the deadline for submitting your contribution is by 23:59 on 27 November 2022.
