Social dialogue within the green transition

The rapid increase in droughts, floods and forest fires across Europe has demonstrated the severe effects of climate change. Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine has underscored the need to transition from fossil fuels to clean energy. The creation of the European Green Deal enshrined the green transition as one of the top policy priorities of the European Union. The initiative also includes measures to alleviate poverty and address inequalities that may arise as part of the shift to a net-zero economy.

Trade unions play an important role in preparing and representing workers in this process of transformation. They act as the voice of workers and fight for fair pay and conditions during this change. Therefore, active engagement in social dialogue will be necessary to secure climate action that delivers for all workers and leaves no one behind.

The Workers' Group is organizing an extraordinary meeting to discuss the ways in which social dialogue can play a strong role ensuring a just transition.
