  • One year after the provisional entry into force of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), most small and medium-sized enterprises are doing well out of it. At a round table at the EESC on 4 October 2018, on the opportunities CETA gives small and medium-sized enterprises – "Opportunities arising from CETA for SMEs" – participants identified a number of initiatives companies could still take advantage of to ensure that all SMEs can benefit from the CETA. Although the agreement has been successful overall, there are some concerns about its implementation in certain sectors – such as dairy – and its ratification.

  • Employers believe that the business community has a crucial role to play in spreading a positive message about trade and in explaining what an ambitious trade policy can achieve. It is businesses that can tell the story of the practical benefits stemming from trade agreements. This was the main message that the members of the EESC Employers' Group delivered to Cecilia Malmström, EU Commissioner for Trade, during their meeting on 6 December 2017.

    The 6th meeting of the EU and the Canada Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs), "DAG-to-DAG meeting", established under the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), will take place on 18-19 March 2024. The Members will take stock of the work of their respective DAGs since the 2023 joint meeting, and discuss business and human rights, the new TSD approach and its implementation and enabling positive outcomes for climate and nature through CETA.

    The meeting will be completed on 19 March with a workshop discussing TSD evolution and ways of leveraging CETA for responsible, sustainable and just resource development.

    A joint statement, prepared by both sides, will be discussed and adopted.

    The DAG members will also participate at the 2024 Canada-EU CETA Civil Society Forum, which will be open to civil society organisations from both sides.

  • The 14th meeting of the EU DAG under the EU-Canada CETA, and the first meeting of the new 2023-25 term, will take place on 27 October 2023. The DAG will elect a new chair, discuss the progress in implementing the Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter and exchange views on the EU-CETA DAG priorities for the new term.

  • The Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs) under the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) met again for the first time in person since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic  on 24 April 2023. The meeting was held in a great spirit and with renewed enthusiasm for cooperation between the joint DAGs. During the meeting Members took stock of the work of the respective DAGs since the 2022 joint online meeting, and identified opportunities for fruitful cooperation on joint priorities. The Joint statement was adopted on 20 June.

  • This is the 4th Joint Meeting of the Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs) under the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). This year it is organised virtually by the Canadian counterparts.

  • EU-Canada DAG to DAG

    This is the 3rd Joint Meeting of the Domestic Advisory Groups (DAGs) under the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The meeting will be the opportunity for the EU DAG to introduce its new Members and the newly elected chair, Ms Stephanie Ghislain, Eurogroup for Animals, and hear from the Canadian counterparts on the latest developments since the September 2020 meeting. Among the topics to be discussed, the TSD review and enforcement, the impact of COVID-19 on trade and CETA DAGs, more specifically 'supply chains', CETA trade and the impact on climate change. Members will also identify joint priorities (2020-2023).

     

  • The 9th meeting of the EU-DAG under CETA is the first meeting to take place under the new Mandate 2020 -2022. Members proceeded to appoint the new President and Vice-Presidents.  DG Trade made a presentation on EU-Canada trade relationship, the Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) Chapter review, the impact of Covid on current EU-Canada Trade and the upcoming Civil society Forum and sub-committee on TSD.  Members of the EU DAG exchanged views on a new work programme and priorities and discussed preparations for the upcoming Joint meeting of the EU-Canada DAGs (DAG-to-DAG) on 7 December 2020.

    2nd Joint meeting of the the EU and Canada DAGs under the EU-Canada CETA.

  • During the meeting, the EU DAG discussed with representatives of the European Commission and a representative of the Mission of Canada to the EU the progress in work on implementation of the EU-Canada CETA. The Group exchanged views on the reports. Discussions on the preparation for the workshop on the occasion of the 2nd Joint meeting of the EU-Canada DAGs were also held.
