This high-level public conference will look at the skills and competencies acquired by people who are active in civil society organisations (such as NGOs, trade unions,employers organisations). The question is how these people (especially young people) can demonstrate these skills and experience and be easier and better included on the labour market.

How can the costs of investing in occupational health and safety be balanced with the benefits that such measures generate?
What is the view of the EU, other international organisations and the social partners on this issue?
The EESC will hold a public hearing on "The costs and benefits of investments in occupational safety and health (OSH)", which will take place on 17 June 2019. The answers to these questions will feed into an exploratory opinion requested by the forthcoming Finnish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

At its hearing on 11 June (10.00-13.00 in meeting room VMA3), the Study Group on the Inclusion of the Roma will be discussing the employment and recruitment situation for the Roma and the discriminatory practices they endure in this regard.
The hearing will seek to discuss the existing forms of discrimination, their extent, as well as the effectiveness or otherwise of actions such as the public works' scheme in improving the Roma's situation in the labour market. It will identify best practices undertaken in Member States and discuss recommendations to counter discrimination in employment and recruitment.
The event aims at bringing together governments, social partners and civil society to help each other in the definition and implementation of the Council recommendation ‘Upskilling pathways: new opportunities for adults’ adopted in December 2016.
The Labour Market Observatory of the EESC has organised a conference entitled "Solidarity between generations: a focus on ageing workers " on the 30 April 2019, at the EESC.
10 years after the first European Day of Solidarity between Generations (29 April 2009), we looked into the concept of solidarity and cooperation between generations, for a fairer and sustainable labour market. We put the focus on the situation of ageing workers and the preconditions for them to stay active in the new world of work. That was particularly timely, as discussions contributed to the drafting of an ongoing SOC/624 opinion on "Changing world of work and ageing workers".
The public hearing on "Towards a more resilient and sustainable European economy with a vision for completing EMU" to be held on Friday, 12 April 2019, starting at 11.30 a.m., will discuss from a wider civil society perspective the future of the European economy and the political initiatives and decisions that need to be taken during the upcoming legislative term and beyond. Taking into account the conclusions of the debate, the EESC will draw up two own-initiative opinions, entitled "Towards a more resilient and sustainable European economy" and "A new vision for completing the Economic and Monetary Union", to be forwarded to the new European Parliament and European Commission.
In order to bring together the views of policymakers and organised civil society, at both EU and national level, the EESC is organising a high-level conference "Towards a more inclusive European Semester", to be held on Thursday, 28 February 2019, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The topics to be discussed will include the current state of the European economy, policy challenges within the European Semester process and the future of the semester.
The Labour Market Observatory of the EESC is organising a conference entitled "Challenges and opportunities of SMEs in the context of future of work and digitalisation" on the 6 December 2018 from 10 am to 4:15 pm, at the EESC.
The event will look into the current situation of SMEs in the EU, in the context of recent developments linked to technological change. It will showcase several good practices from EU countries and feature speakers from the European Parliament, European Commission, the EESC, Eurofound, Cedefop, think-tanks, as well as from social partners and other civil society organisations.
The Labour Market Observatory of the EESC is organising a conference entitled "Public employment services in the context of the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights: what is their new role as regards active labour market policies?" on the 29 November 2018 from 10 am to 5 pm, at the EESC. The event will look into the current situation of public employment services in the EU, in the context of the implementation of the Pillar of Social Rights and other recent developments. It will showcase several good practices from EU countries, as regards activation, outreach to vulnerable people and cooperation with employers and trade unions. Speakers include representatives from the European Parliament, European Commission, the EESC, the OECD, the Public Employment Services (PES) Network, Eurofound, academia, as well as social partners and other civil society organisations.
The Workers' Group is organising an event for the presentation and discussion of the study "Overview of the national strategies on work 4.0 – a coherent analysis of the role of the social partners".
The study will be presented by its author, Anna Byhovskaya, Senior Policy Advisor at the Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD.
