Description of the initiative:

Since 1987 Telefono Azzurro has been committed to preventing child sexual abuse, adopting a range of measures:

  • Helpline (19696) and online counselling
  • Website to report sexual abuse images on the web
  • Tetto Azzurro: centre for counselling, psychotherapy and free legal services for child sexual abuse victims and their families.
  • School-based programmes for children, adolescents and teachers, aimed at increasing children's self-defence knowledge and skills, in real life and on the web. Main concepts of these programmes: Body Ownership; Touch Continuum; Secrecy; Intuition; Saying No; Support Systems. Children and adolescents are involved in role playing. The following resources are used:
    • Booklets for primary and secondary school teachers on child sexual abuse prevention and on safe Internet use.
    • Teacher-offered, video-based classroom curriculum on the prevention of child sexual abuse: “Feeling yes, feeling no” for primary schools and “Lessons on trust” for secondary schools.

Recent campaings:

  1. 2011 awareness campaign entitled “Alziamo le mani contro la violenza sui bambini - Raising our hands against child abuse"
  2. 2011 awareness initiative entitled “The week against violence - third edition”, developed by the Italian Ministry of Equal Opportunities and the Italian Ministry of Education in collaboration with the following associations: Acli, Agedo, Arcigay, Fish, Telefono Azzurro, Telefono Rosa, Enar, Cir and Sucar Drom.
