  • During the meeting, the EU DAG elected its presidency for the 2023-2025 term and had a tour de table to introduce the respective members and the organisations they represent.

    It was likewise an opportunity for members to receive an update from the European Commission on the implementation of the TSD Chapter and information on the preparations of the meeting of the Committee on Trade and Sustainable Development. The members also discussed EU-Korea relations with a special focus on the outcome of the 10th EU-Republic of Korea summit, held on 22 May in Seoul.

    Other items on the agenda were the Rules of Procedure of the DAG and the preparation of the upcoming Civil Society Forum and the workshop with the Korean counterparts to take place this autumn.

    The rise of cross-border teleworking poses challenges to the taxation systems around the world. The increased ability for an employee to telework from another country raises tax issues that affect both employees and employers.

  • The 13th meeting of the EU-Ukraine Civil Society Platform took place on 3 July 2023. During the meeting, a debate focused on assessing the implementation of the seven steps outlined by the European Commission and the state of play of the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, as well as on enhancing the role of civil society in Ukraine's way to the EU. The Platform also discussed the challenges and possibilities for Ukraine today and in the post-war reconstruction, with special focus on green recovery, energy, environment and employment. A joint declaration, prepared by both sides, was discussed and adopted.

  • The EU has adopted a large number of legislative proposals to improve the functioning of the EU financial markets, and especially to complete the Capital Markets Union and the Banking Union. Well-functioning financial markets are essential to mobilise the investments necessary for the green and digital transformations, support growth and job creation, and for the strategic autonomy of the EU.

    With this in mind, EU institutions systematically assess the impact of new financial legislation on investor protection, financial stability, and market integrity. However, there is not a clear roadmap on how to evaluate the impact of policies financial markets' policies on the real economy, for instance, on long-term investment.

    The purpose of this hearing is to discuss on the current framework for assessment and evaluation of EU policies affecting the financial sector and how it can be improved.

    The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) organises regular consultations of the European Union‑Africa Economic and Social Stakeholders' Network, which gathers representatives of organised civil society (employers and chambers of commerce, employees and trade unions, cooperatives, farmers' organisations, consumers' organisations, NGOs, etc.) from both continents.

    The 8th meeting of the EU-Africa Economic and Social Stakeholders' Network will take place in Brussels, Belgium, on 28-29 June 2023, at EESC premises, with the participation of African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (AU ECOSOCC).
