The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

EESO je prispeval k vrhu ZN o prehranskih sistemih 2021 s spletnim posvetovanjem 28. maja, namen katerega je bil razmisliti o ranljivostih in neenakostih v evropskih prehranskih sistemih ter ugotoviti, kako bi dosegli boljšo uravnoteženost in pravičnost oskrbovalnih verig. Govorniki na visoki ravni iz Združenih narodov, Evropske komisije in Evropskega Parlamenta so izrazili svoja stališča o spremembah, ki so potrebne za krepitev uravnoteženosti, pravičnosti in spoštovanja pravic v prehodu k bolj trajnostnim prehranskim sistemom.
Pandemija COVID-19 nas poziva k spremembam. Čeprav so bili kmeti in delavci v prehranskih sistemih med krizo zaradi COVID-19 v prvih bojnih črtah in so vsem Evropejcem omogočali neprekinjeno oskrbo s hrano, je ta kriza izpostavila dejstvo, da hrana „od vil do vilic“ ni samoumevna, je povedal Andreas Thurner, predsednik študijske skupine za trajnostne prehranske sisteme.
EESO je v preteklih letih pripravil vrsto predlogov in konkretnih zamisli, ki jih lahko povzamemo v pet skupin priporočil za vrh ZN o prehranskih sistemih.

III. Zagotavljanje poštenih cen in prepoved nepoštenih trgovinskih praks
