Sabiex jikkontribwixxi għas-Summit tan-Nazzjonijiet Uniti (NU) dwar is-Sistemi tal-Ikel tal-2021, il-KESE organizza seduta online fit-28 ta’ Mejju sabiex jesplora l-vulnerabbiltajiet u l-inugwaljanzi tas-sistemi tal-ikel Ewrope, u sabiex jidentifika kif jistgħu jinkisbu ktajjen ta’ provvista aktar ekwi u ġusti. Kelliema ta’ livell għoli min-NU, mill-Kummissjoni Ewropea u mill-Parlament Ewropew skambjaw il-fehmiet tagħhom dwar it-tibdil meħtieġ sabiex jissaħħu l-ekwità u l-ġustizzja u għal approċċ ibbażat fuq id-drittijiet fit-tranżizzjoni lejn sistemi tal-ikel aktar sostenibbli.
Il-pandemija tal-COVID-19 hija sinjal ta’ twissija għal bidla. Għalkemm il-bdiewa u l-ħaddiema tas-sistema tal-ikel kienu fuq l-ewwel linja matul il-kriżi tal-COVID-19, u pprovdew provvista ta’ ikel mingħajr interruzzjoni għall-Ewropej kollha, “din il-kriżi enfasizzat il-fatt li l-ikel jitwassal “mill-għalqa sal-platt” m’għandux jitqies bħala fatt ovvju”, qal Andreas Thurner, president tal-Grupp ta’ Studju tal-KESE dwar Sistemi Sostenibbli tal-Ikel.
Il-KESE żviluppa bosta proposti u ideat speċifiċi matul is-snin, li jistgħu jinġabru f’ħames settijiet ta’ rakkomandazzjonijiet li għandhom jikkontribwixxu għas-Summit tan-NU dwar is-Sistemi tal-Ikel:
I. Trawwim ta’ politiki dwar l-ikel komprensivi u integrati;
II. Promozzjoni ta’ dieti aktar tajbin għas-saħħa u aktar sostenibbli;
III. Żgurar ta’ prezzijiet ġusti u projbizzjoni ta’ prattiki kummerċjali inġusti;
IV. Tisħiħ tal-potenzjal tal-ktajjen ta’ provvista tal-ikel qosra u tal-agroekoloġija;
V. Żgurar ta’ involviment u parteċipazzjoni strutturati tas-soċjetà ċivili.
