EESO podpira ukrepe za okolju prijaznejši promet, vendar poudarja, da mora biti energetski prehod pravičen ter ponuditi vzdržne in realistične alternative, pri tem pa je treba upoštevati posebne gospodarske in socialne značilnosti in potrebe vseh delov Evrope, tudi podeželja.
To je glavno sporočilo iz mnenja, ki sta ga pripravila Pierre Jean Coulon in Lidija Pavić-Rogošić in je bilo sprejeto na januarskem plenarnem zasedanju Odbora. EESO v svoji oceni bele knjige o prometu iz leta 2011, katere namen je prekiniti odvisnost prometnega sistema od nafte, ne da bi to negativno vplivalo na njegovo učinkovitost ali ogrozilo mobilnost, sprejema odločno stališče.
Omejevanje načinov prevoza ni rešitev: cilj bi moral biti somodalnost in ne prehod na druge oblike prevoza. Poleg tega mora biti okoljski prehod socialno pravičen in ohraniti konkurenčnost evropskega prometa ob hkratni popolni vzpostavitvi evropskega prometnega prostora kot dela enotnega trga. Zamude na tem področju so obžalovanja vredne.
„Omejevanje mobilnosti ni rešitev. Podpiramo vse ukrepe za povečanje energetske učinkovitosti prometa in zmanjšanje emisij," je dejal Pierre Jean Coulon. „Evropa se trenutno sooča z veliki težavami, vendar to ne bi smelo privesti do sprememb glede socialnih in okoljskih pričakovanj iz različnih evropskih pobud,“ je še dejal.
EESO prav tako spodbuja odprto, stalno in pregledno izmenjavo mnenj o izvajanju bele knjige. „Odbor opozarja na pomen zagotavljanja podpore civilne družbe in deležnikov, tudi prek participativnega dialoga,“ je dodala Lidija Pavić-Rogošić. Menila je še: „Dobro razumevanje in široko sprejemanje strateških ciljev bosta zelo pripomogla k doseganju rezultatov.“ (mp)
