The public hearing on "Towards a more resilient and sustainable European economy with a vision for completing EMU" to be held on Friday, 12 April 2019, starting at 11.30 a.m., will discuss from a wider civil society perspective the future of the European economy and the political initiatives and decisions that need to be taken during the upcoming legislative term and beyond. Taking into account the conclusions of the debate, the EESC will draw up two own-initiative opinions, entitled "Towards a more resilient and sustainable European economy" and "A new vision for completing the Economic and Monetary Union", to be forwarded to the new European Parliament and European Commission.
Objectives: To contribute to a broad public debate on the transition towards a new European ("post E2020") Strategy, addressing the global transformation of the economy and society through digitalisation and accelerated technological changes (the Fourth Industrial Revolution) in order to manage a transition towards a more sustainable European future. This will feed into concrete policy guidance for the European Commission and Parliament and contribute to an action plan for Civil Society Organisations to help them align and strengthen political and operational priorities.
The president of the Greek ESC, Mr George Vernicos, has invited the EU2020 Steering Committee to co-organise a Europe 2020 related event with the Greek ESC (OKE), in Athens. In line with the priorities of the EESC President Dassis for reinforcing the Europe 2020 strategy and giving the civil society a stronger role in the strategy (point 37) the joint event has as its objective to analyse the social situation in Greece and to make recommendations for complementing the adjustment programme of the country.
In this brochure, we have put together a series of semester-related opinions and an information report in which the EESC makes policy recommendations on the various elements of the European Semester.
