The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Iedere maand presenteren wij een verrassingsgast, wiens werk en inzet voor anderen een inspiratiebron zijn. Voor de juli-editie van EESC-Info hebben wij Dr. Hans Henri Kluge, regionaal directeur voor Europa van de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO), en Johan Strid, directeur van The Ocean Race Summits, uitgenodigd.
Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge begon zijn termijn als regionaal directeur voor Europa van de WHO op 1 februari 2020, na zijn voordracht door het regionaal comité van de WHO voor Europa en benoeming door de raad van bestuur van de WHO. Hij heeft 25 jaar ervaring in de medische praktijk en de volksgezondheid waarbij hij over de hele wereld in allerlei situaties heeft gewerkt.
Johan Strid startte in augustus 2020 als directeur van The Ocean Race Summit. Daarvoor was hij secretaris-generaal van het Zweedse Paralympische Comité en secretaris-generaal van de Zweedse scouting. Johan heeft een rijk verleden in het maatschappelijk middenveld en is lid geweest van het bestuur van de Zweedse jeugdraad, het Zweedse Rode Kruis en ECPAT. Hij was actief als ondernemer en startte een aantal bedrijven op. Op Europees niveau is Johan voorzitter geweest van de adviesraad van het directoraat Jeugdzaken van de Raad van Europa en lid van het European Scout Committee.
