The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Europos ekonomikos ir socialinių reikalų komiteto (EESRK) nuomonėje, kurios rengimą inicijavo Georgi Stoev ir Thomas Student ir kuri buvo priimta EESRK liepos mėn. plenarinėje sesijoje, pažymima, kad konkurencingumo, inovacijų ir darbo vietų kūrimo skatinimas pagal atnaujintą daugiašalę prekybos sistemą turėtų būti pasaulinio bendradarbiavimo reguliavimo srityje prioritetas.
Esama pavojaus, kad dėl tokių sutrikdymų, kokius sukėlė koronavirusas (COVID-19), pasaulio ekonomika ir socialinis gyvenimas visiškai apmirs. Tokio sutrikdymo poveikis – tai recesija JAV, ES, Japonijoje ir kituose pasaulio regionuose, nepaprastai lėtas augimas Kinijoje ir itin sumažėjusios gamybos apimtys. Ekonominius nuostolius vyriausybės turi atsverti fiskaline ir pinigų politika ir atlaikyti numatomus ekonominės paradigmos pasikeitimus.
„Pramonės plėtra Europoje neturi nukentėti dėl nesąžiningo ekonominio, socialinio ir aplinkos dempingo. Tai gali tapti realia grėsme Europos pramonei ir Europos socialiniam modeliui“, – nurodė nuomonės pranešėjas Georgi Stoev. „Nerimaujame dėl reiškiamo negatyvumo tarptautinės prekybos ir globalizacijos atžvilgiu, taip pat dėl populizmo sustiprėjimo. Protekcionizmas ir nacionalizmas negali pasiūlyti ekonominių ir socialinių problemų sprendimo“, – jis pažymėjo apibendrindamas.
„Europai skubiai reikia naujo vidaus integracijos projekto, bendros ekonominės, socialinės (įskaitant visuomenės sveikatos koordinavimą), fiskalinės, energetinės ir aplinkos strategijos ir nuoseklios prekybos politikos“, – teigė bendrapranešėjis Thomas Student. EESRK mano, kad dedant visuotines pastangas padėti aplinkai nekeliant grėsmės bendrajai rinkai ir Europos bendrovėms bei darbo vietoms, žaliasis kursas turėtų į visumą sujungti naująją pramonės strategiją ir prekybos politiką, taip pat ekonominę, reguliavimo ir konkurencinę politiką, ir iškelti ekologinius tikslus visai pramonei.
