The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.
The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

On 17 July, EESC President Oliver Röpke together with the EESC delegation, Peter Schmidt and Antje Gerstein held a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in context of the UN High Level Political Forum taking place in New York.
During the meeting President Röpke expressed the commitment of the EESC to the implementation of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The President highlighted the importance of a structured involvement of the European civil society to accelerate the agenda's implementation and reiterated the role EESC can play in this process.
From 17 to 19 July, an EESC delegation is participating in the High-Level Political Forum in New York – a pivotal event for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) implementation. For the first time, the EU is presenting an EU-level Voluntary Review (VR) of progress towards the 2030 Agenda – to which the EESC has contributed by providing the collective views of civil society (EESC contribution). The HLPF will support the mid-term review of the implementation of the SDGs and the preparations for the 2023 SDG Summit to be convened in September 2023.
