Meeting of EESC President Oliver Röpke with Charles Michel, President of the European Council

President Röpke held today a meeting with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. The Presidents held a fruitful discussion on some of the key European issues, including enlargement, youth, competitiveness as well as international relations, more generally.

President Röpke also presented the key priorities of his political manifesto: rule of law, democracy, fundamental values, focusing also on the aspect of speaking up for the civil society at home and abroad. He underlined the need to nurture the civil society, especially in the accession countries. President Michel supported the idea of a gradual involvement of civil society in candidate countries and recognised the important role the EESC can play in this regard.
