The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Na prosinačkom plenarnom zasjedanju EGSO-a održana je rasprava o obnovi i otpornosti euromediteranske regije nakon pandemije COVID-a 19, s naglaskom na digitalnoj pismenosti.
Ističući ključnu ulogu regionalne suradnje i dijaloga te naročito mreže lokalnih organizacija civilnog društva, predsjednica Odbora Christa Schweng rekla je da su Unija za Mediteran i Zaklada „Anna Lindh” izrazito važni partneri za EGSO i da čine dva glavna stupa euro-mediteranskog partnerstva.
Álvaro Albacete Perea, zamjenik glavnog tajnika Unije za Mediteran, i Josep Ferré, izvršni direktor Euro-mediteranske zaklade za dijalog među kulturama „Anna Lindh”, istaknuli su da je presudno ojačati odnose EU-a i južnog Mediterana.
Za ekonomski i socijalni napredak cijele euro-mediteranske regije ključna je digitalizacija. U samoinicijativnom mišljenju „Digitalna tranzicija u euromediteranskoj regiji”, koje je izradila Dolores Sammut Bonnici i koje je usvojeno na plenarnom zasjedanju, naglašava se da je važno smanjiti digitalni jaz između zemalja, između urbanih i ruralnih krajeva i između generacija.
