Statement on the parliamentary elections in Serbia

The EESC congratulates the citizens of Serbia on their historic participation in the parliamentary elections, and the Student List on its remarkable result.

For almost two years, Serbia’s students stood up for accountability, the rule of law and institutions citizens can trust, the very values on which the European Union is built. They brought together millions of people across generations and remained peaceful throughout. 

The EESC was the first EU institution to publicly support the voices of Serbia’s youth. 

Today, those voices carry a message far beyond Serbia, demonstrating the strength of peaceful civic engagement.

The real work begins now. Should Serbia choose to advance on its path towards the European Union, the EESC stands ready to walk that path alongside its civil society, social partners and youth.
