ROK-EU Intersessional Workshop

The ROK-EU Intersessional Workshop will take place on 4 September 2026, entirely online, from 09:00 to 11:00 Brussels time (16:00 to 18:00 Seoul time). Simultaneous interpretation between English and Korean will be provided.

The workshop will open with welcome remarks from the co-chairs, Joo-hyoung Lee, Chair of the ROK DAG, and Krzysztof Pater, Chair of the EU DAG. This will be followed by a tour de table, allowing DAG members and speakers to introduce themselves before the substantive discussions begin.

The main part of the workshop will focus on two thematic areas. The first will address labour issues, under the title “Climate Crisis Response and Protection of Vulnerable Workers.” The EU contribution will be delivered by Dr. Marouane Laabbas el Guennouni, Researcher in Health, Safety & Working Conditions at ETUI, while the ROK contribution will be given by Yong Yoon Seo from Dongguk University. Each presentation will last ten minutes, followed by 20 minutes of Q&A and discussion.

After a short five-minute break, the workshop will turn to the environmental dimension, focusing on “The Current Status of Data Space Development.” The EU speaker is still to be confirmed, while the ROK presentation will be delivered by Sang-jun Ahn from KITECH. As in the labour session, the two presentations will be followed by 20 minutes of questions and discussion.

The workshop will conclude with closing remarks from the co-chairs. Overall, the agenda is structured around two substantive exchanges between the EU and Korean sides: the response to the climate crisis and the protection of vulnerable workers, and the current development of data spaces. Both sessions are designed to allow for presentations followed by discussion and an exchange of views between participants.
