The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.
The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

The EESC hosted the 2nd Civil Society Forum on Trade and Sustainable Development : ' The other side of trade: a bottom-up approach to sustainable development' on 14 November 2023. Moving on from the fundamental question "Have we been listening?", the event examined Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) from different angles with a common approach: inclusive, bottom-up and solution-oriented.

The European Economic and Social Committee organised a major conference on Rare diseases and European reference networks under the auspices of the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council and in cooperation with the authorities of the Basque Country. It took place on 11 October 2023 in the Euskalduna Conference Centre in Bilbao, Spain.
As in the previous years, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will actively take part in the annual United Nations Framework on Climate Change – COP28, which this year will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 30 November until 12 December 2023. This year's COP marks the 31st anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

This event, organised by the EESC's permanent group on immigration and integration, aims to examine the success and lessons learned of integration and inclusion as an EU policy as well as a reality facing many cities and regions in the EU.
Distinguished panels from EU policy, social partners, cities and think tanks will help answer this question.
At a time of increasing geopolitical rivalry and the steady erosion of the multilateral rules-based trading system, EU’s competitiveness has taken centre stage in the EU agenda.
