The EESC is organising a virtual conference on "Health challenges in the EU in the pandemic context" on 31 March 2022 (9h30 to 17h30).

The aims of the conference will be to look into possible actions to exit the cross cutting crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, to prevent the next health threat from spiraling out of control, and to build stronger and more resilient health systems for the future.

In order to prepare its opinion on the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) proposal by the European Commission, the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on 13 January 2022 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.

The aim of the event is to discuss the proposal and gather input from other EU Institutions, civil society, social partners and health professionals, which will feed into the EESC's opinion.

In order to prepare its own-initiative opinion, the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on "Towards a new care model for the elderly: learning from the Covid-19 pandemic" on 27 October 2021.

The aim of the event is to gather input from other EU Institutions and civil society organisations.

We will debate around the following questions:

  • Which are the structural causes that have led to the elderly care systems to become some of the most contagious and lethal factors of this pandemic?
  • What are the strengths and weaknesses of the various care models in the EU?
  • Which are the civil society perspective and proposals for a new care model for the elderly?

The aim of the hearing is to discuss the challenges of the transition from institutional to community-based support for persons with disabilities (de-institutionalisation) as well as the role played by families as their carers.

The aim of the event is to gather input from other EU Institutions, organisations representing persons with disabilities, social partners and other civil society organisations on the Commission's proposal. This input will feed into the EESC's opinion.

The aim of the event is to gather input from other EU Institutions, civil society and health professionals. We will debate the following questions:
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the current proposal?
What kind of activities do different actors carry out with respect to beating cancer, and are there any best practices to be shared?

The hybrid conference will see the launch of the EESC study "The response of civil society organisations to the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent restrictive measures adopted in Europe", as well as topical debates with high-level speakers and civil society representatives. External participants are kindly invited to follow the meeting from remote.

The EESC Thematic Study group on Disability Rights is organising  a public hearing on 30 March 2021.

The objective of this hearing is to give the floor to one of the groups more hit by the COVID-19 pandemic: persons with disabilities (PWD). In particular, we will look into the situation concerning the prioritization of PWD, or lack of, in the vaccination rollouts within the EU.
