The role of social economy in the creation of jobs and in the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights

The EESC:

• believes that the social economy bodies are the strategic partners for the implementation of the European social rights base and the construction of a European Union which reaffirms that the economy has the essential purpose of serving people. To this end, it recommends that member states' governments plan to involve these bodies broadly in their national plans for recovery and resilience in the aftermath of the pandemic crisis;
• considers it necessary for the European Union to have a permanent statistics collection mechanism through which it will be possible to have validated, comparable and up-to-date data on the size of this sector and its influence;
• believes that social economy organisations should benefit from adequate support policies that recognise their mission of general interest. These actions must take place on four levels: tax policies, policies to encourage investment, initiatives that strengthen job stability, initiatives to promote workers' skills and technological innovation;
• calls for and wants the social economy action plan to provide an opportunity to put in place operational instruments and concrete legislative proposals.
