Europe's industrial fabric is at the heart of our/the backbone of its economies: it generates wealth, it creates jobs and it fuels our welfare systems. Since the beginning of the health crisis, many companies have been struggling to tackle unprecedented challenges and find creative ways to reinvent themselves, build resilience and survive.
The webinar will take place in the context of the EESC International Trade Follow-up Committee, in cooperation with the EESC INT Section and will explore the topic of 'Supply chains and the case of reshoring'.
The webinar took place in the context of the EESC Thematic Study Group on Energy, in cooperation with the EESC INT Section. It concentrated on the main clean energy sources and the impact of the current transition to a carbon-neutral economy on the markets and on society.
The webinar will take place in the context of the EESC Thematic Study Group on Sustainable Food Systems, in cooperation with the EESC INT Section and will explore amongst other questions, how to better align food industry with the SDGs and stimulate sustainable food production, processing, and distribution across the chain.

The main objective of these events was to hear the view of civil society organisations on the future of European industry. Each event focused on a specific aspect of the strategy, from the role of critical raw materials to industry's role to achieve the Green Deal, from Europe's competitiveness on the global stage to a truly Just Transition and public & private investments.

Following the publication of the European Commission's Update to the New Industrial Strategy, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will be carrying out a series of activities to fulfil its role of representing the views of organised civil society. A key event in this process will be a conference held on 17 June 2021, from 2.30 to 6 p.m., on Updated industrial strategy: towards a more resilient and strategically autonomous EU industry?
AI in tackling Covid-19 crisis: opportunities and challenges & European Digital Innovation Hubs: boosting adoption of digital technologies in EU businesses
On 7 June 2021 the European Economic and Social Committee is organising a half-day virtual hearing in the framework of its opinion on Updating the new industrial strategy for Europe. The purpose of the hearing will be to contribute to the EESC opinion and to the debate on the policy priorities in terms of strategic autonomy and industrial transformation. The event will focus on topical questions such as industrial recovery from the pandemic crisis, Europe's competitiveness on the global stage and the transition to a green and digital economy. It will also explore the need for reconstruction and transformation of European industry and it will concentrate on the role of civil society organisations in designing the future of European industry.
