This event will be held in the context of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP26, which takes place in Glasgow, United Kingdom, from 31st October - 12th November 2021 and will feature an intergenerational and international discussion on critical areas for climate and social justice: nature and sustainable business, energy transition, water management and sustainability in the global economy. Youth and high-level decision-makers will engage in a dialogue on opportunities, challenges and ways to make climate and sustainability policies participatory.
The intergenerational aspect of climate and sustainability policies needs to be reflected in strong meaningful youth engagement at all stages of decision-making processes. This event wants to be a step in this process. Four youth experts will present the role that youth play in the 4 critical areas and the challenges of their participation. They will also introduce 4 main questions to address to the decision-makers, which will have 10 min to respond.
- Felix Giroux, board member at Youth4Nature, will share his perspective on bringing nature and youth voices in the discussion on sustainable business.
- Carlotta Ferri, project manager at European Youth Energy Network, will showcase the outcomes of a project aiming at analysing youth and citizens' participations in urban energy transition roadmaps.
- Aleksandr Hakobyan, member of World Youth Parliament for Water, will present the role of youth in data monitoring and citizen science with the example of his innovative project of long term water quality monitoring with remote sensing.
- Rachel Banda, young Fair Trade ambassador and coffee producer from Malawi, will highlight the role of international trade in the protection of marginalised people and the sustainability weakness of the EU trade policy.
Organisers: European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Youth4Nature (Y4N), European Youth Parliament for Water (EYPW), European Youth Energy Network (EYEN), Fair Trade Advocacy Office (FTAO), Generation Climate Europe (GCE) & others.
