Extraordinary meeting of the Workers' Group
The EESC Workers' Group is hosting a conference in Nicosia on the occasion of the Cyprus EU Council Presidency, gathering Cypriot trade unions, government representatives including from the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, and labour relations experts. The meeting will address pressing challenges facing the modern workforce: minimum wage, cost-of-living and the intersection of climate change and labour relations - from Cypriot and EU perspectives.
The agenda is structured around three core sessions:
- Session 1: Labour Market Developments and Challenges: A tripartite discussion with government officials and union leaders regarding social dialogue, the Cost-of-Living Allowance mechanism (COLA) and the minimum wage in Cyprus.
- Session 2: Climate Change and Labour Relations: An exploration of how the green transition impacts the world of work, focusing on how trade unions can ensure fair policies and decent jobs in a changing climate.
- Session 3: The All-Cyprus Trade Union Forum: An open, collaborative discussion with representatives from Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot Trade Unions.
The event serves as a pivotal platform to promote the EESC Workers' Group core priorities—full employment, social justice, and fair working conditions—while ensuring European policy-making directly reflects the needs and realities of workers on the ground.
