On 6 November 2023, the EESC will host a public hearing in the context of its ongoing opinion on 'Promoting autonomous and sustainable food production: strategies for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post-2027' requested by the upcoming Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
On Thursday, 23 March 2023, the NAT Section is organising a public expert event "What next for European action on childhood obesity?" to feed into the exploratory opinion requested by the upcoming Spanish Presidency to the Council of the European Union.

The webinar will take place in the context of the EESC Thematic Study Group on Sustainable Food Systems, in cooperation with the EESC INT Section and will explore amongst other questions, how to better align food industry with the SDGs and stimulate sustainable food production, processing, and distribution across the chain.
Opportunities and drawbacks towards the reduction of GHG emissions in agriculture
This study evaluates the environmental, social, and economic impacts of digitalisation based on a literature review and case studies in Estonia, Germany, Romania, and Spain
Cultured meat (CM) is raising interest globally, including from multinational food companies, as an innovative technology to produce meat without farming animals. This completely different way of obtaining animal proteins is perceived as disruptive to the existing system. This study reviews the state of the art of research related to the potential impact of CM development on environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability, highlighting important knowledge gaps. These gaps fuel polarised positions.
Between June 2021 and March 2022, the EESC held a series of events on the updated new industrial strategy. Each event was organised by a different section of the EESC and focused on a specific aspect of the strategy, with the aim of hearing the views of civil society organisations on the future of European industry.
