In order to examine and reaffirm the societal contribution of volunteers, on 7 July 2022, the Civil Society Organisations' Group of the European Economic and Social Committee will host a conference entitled Volunteers – citizens building the future of Europe, in Gdańsk, Poland. This conference is a part of a three-day mission to Gdańsk - the European Capital of Volunteering 2022.

This conference was co-organised by the European Economic and Social Committee and the Ministry of Economics of Latvia and brought together local, national and European actors to discuss the challenges and solutions of building sustainable and affordable housing. A special focus was put on the role of civil society organisations and local authorities on the ground in achieving ownership, bottom-up participation in housing policies, proper information to the direct beneficiaries and financing facilitation.

Participants in the hearing will discuss how fundamental rights and the rule of law are interconnected and ineffective without each other. Speakers will offer an overview of key rule of law principles and what they mean for the daily lives of the European population. They will also discuss the various factors which are used to measure a country's performance in the area. Finally, they will evoke the current trends in Slovakia, in the Visegrad Group region, and in the European Union in general.

DAG-to-DAG meetings allow civil society organisations – members of DAGs that are regularly involved in monitoring exercises under the Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) chapter of an agreement – to come together and exchange views on implementation issues. In this DAG-to-DAG meeting under the EU-Japan EPA, participants from both sides will discuss industry prospects for delivering inclusive economic growth, the transition towards a carbon-neutral economy, and the ratification and implementation of the ILO Conventions. They will also discuss prospects for future cooperation.

In order to prepare its own initiative opinion on "The role of family members caring for people with disabilities and the elderly: the explosion of the phenomenon during the pandemic", the EESC is organising a remote public hearing on 4 July 2022 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.
The aim of the event is to gather input from policy makers, civil society organisations and social partners, which will feed into the EESC's opinion.
On 29 June 2022, the EESC's Labour Market Observatory (LMO) will hold a remote public hearing on "The work of the future: ensuring lifelong learning and training of employees", concluding the LMO study on the topic.
The hearing will look at the financing of lifelong learning, the issue of equal access to lifelong learning, the validation of competences and skills linked to labour mobility across the EU, and the question of lifelong learning in the public sector.
Invited speakers include representatives of the European institutions, of the social partners, as well as other civil society organisations.
The 9th meeting of the EU-Georgia Civil Society Platform (CSP) was convened on 28 June 2022 in Tbilisi, Georgia.
During the meeting, an exchange with Georgian and EU authorities was held to assess the European perspective of Georgia and the implementation of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement/DCFTA. Furthermore, the participants discussed theeconomic and social impact of the war in Ukraine on Georgia and the EU, the role of civil society in the post-war recovery and human rights in the face of war and crisis. A joint declaration, prepared by both sides, was discussed and adopted.
Being the first in-person meeting since the irruption of COVID-19 pandemic, Delegates from Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific and EESC Members are gathering in the context of the pending signature of the Partnership Agreement between the European Union and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
The EESC is organising a public hearing on "Transport Accessibility for persons with disabilities" on 23 June 2022.
The aim of the event is to reflect on which steps the EU could take to make progress on this topic, in particular by identifying the existing barriers and obstacles and good practices and to offer a space for debate to organisations representing persons with disabilities and other stakeholders.
