The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

Covid-19 krīzē pārliecināmies par to, cik svarīga ir ES dalībvalstu, iestāžu un iedzīvotāju solidaritāte. Raugoties uz šo pieredzi, mēs spriežam par to, kāpēc konference par Eiropas nākotni, kas nesen sākās, ir jauns un svarīgs solis kopīgās pārdomās par mūsu kopīgo Eiropas nākotni.
EESK priekšsēdētāja Christa Schweng nāk klajā ar jaunu vēstījumu par Eiropu, par ko EESK iestāsies, būdama novērotāja konferences par Eiropu valdē, un apņemas mobilizēt Komitejas plašo tīklu organizētajā pilsoniskajā sabiedrībā, lai nodrošinātu iespējami plašu līdzdalību.
EP deputāts, konferences par Eiropu valdes loceklis un kādreizējais Beļģijas premjerministrs Guy Verhofstadt, kurš 2001. gadā ierosināja Lākenes Deklarāciju, kas bija Eiropas Konventa sākumpunkts, arī uzsver, ka Eiropa atrodas krustcelēs. Esot pienācis laiks Eiropai nākotnes ceļā doties kopā ar iedzīvotājiem.
ES korespondents un izcils Eiropas lietu eksperts Lorenzo Consoli saka, ka viņš 30 Briselē pavadītajos gados nav pieredzējis, ka ES iesaistās tik vērienīgā Eiropas demokrātijas pasākumā. (dm)
