Thionóil Coiste Eacnamaíoch agus Sóisialta na hEorpa (CESE) comhdháil dar teideal An Eoraip a mhúnlú i dteannta a chéile. Ba é cuspóir na comhdhála sin, a eagraíodh d’fhonn Comhdháil ar Thodhchaí na hEorpa a thabhairt chun críche, bailchríoch a chur ar an obair a rinne an Coiste go dtí sin agus plé a dhéanamh ar an staid reatha, ar na dúshláin a bhí amach romhainn agus ar na huaillmhianta don todhchaí.
Chuir Uachtarán CESE, Christa Schweng, tús leis an díospóireacht, agus tagairt á déanamh aici do na forbairtí stairiúla atá ag tarlú le déanaí san Úcráin agus an chéad cheist á freagairt aici maidir le cé acu an é seo an t-am ceart chun todhchaí na hEorpa a phlé.
‘Léiríonn an t-ionsaí i gcoinne na hÚcráine agus a muintire an géarghá atá leis an tionscadal Eorpach agus luachanna bunúsacha na hEorpa, amhail an tsíocháin, an tsaoirse agus an daonlathas, a neartú a thuilleadh', a dúirt Christa Schweng.
Léirigh sí a thábhachtaí atá an eachtra seo mar ócáid chun léargas a fháil ar an staid mar atá faoi láthair agus chun measúnú a dhéanamh ar an méid a tharla le cúpla mí anuas.
Rinne CESE tionscnaimh agus imeachtaí for-rochtana a reáchtáil sna Ballstáit ar fad d’fhonn ionadaíocht chothrom a ráthú, fostóirí, oibrithe agus an tsochaí shibhialta eagraithe ina hiomláine a rannpháirtiú, agus a mbarúlacha a chur in iúl le linn na Comhdhála ar Thodhchaí na hEorpa. Ghlac an Coiste Rún maidir le hInsint Nua ar an Eoraip freisin agus d’fhoilsigh sé roinnt smaointe ar ardán na Comhdhála ar líne.
I ráiteas deiridh, dúirt Státrúnaí Gnóthaí Eorpacha le hAire don Eoraip agus do Ghnóthaí Eachtracha na Fraince, Clément Beaune an méid seo a leanas: ‘Beidh díospóireachtaí agus cinntí institiúideacha ag teastáil chun tograí na saoránach a chur chun feidhme, agus gníomhóidh CESE mar chaomhnóir chun a chinntiú go mbainfear amach an méid a bhfuiltear ag súil leis’.
Bhí ról thar a bheith gníomhach ag CESE sa Chomhdháil ar Thodhchaí na hEorpa trína ghrúpa ad-hoc, mar bhreathnóir ar bhord feidhmiúcháin na Comhdhála, agus mar chomhalta den seisiún iomlánach. (ks)
