The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Den nye EU-strategi for tilpasning til klimaforandringerne er et vigtigt skridt mod at opnå klimaneutralitet og -modstandsdygtighed inden 2050. Det europæiske civilsamfund bakker kraftigt op om Kommissionens tilsagn om at styrke indsatsen for klimasikring, opbygning af modstandsdygtighed, forebyggelse og beredskab.
I sin udtalelse om den nye strategi, som blev vedtaget på plenarforsamlingen i juli, understregede EØSU, at tilpasning, hvor lighed er i fokus, er afgørende for at beskytte de europæiske borgeres liv og levebrød, især de mere sårbare, så ingen lades i stikken.
EØSU understreger derfor behovet for, at der i lige høj grad fokuseres på finansiering af afbødning og tilpasning, samt for særlige retningslinjer for tilpasning, overvågningsværktøjer, benchmarks og indikatorer. Sådanne værktøjer vil hjælpe med at skabe gennemsigtighed og vurdere, hvordan det går med tilpasningen til klimaforandringerne, samtidig med, at der opbygges lokal, national og regional kapacitet.
Bioøkonomien og omstillingen til en cirkulær økonomi udgør afgørende og konkrete tilgange til klimatilpasningen under Europas genopretning.
"EU skal fortsat muliggøre og understrege betydningen af innovation, investeringer og handel, som øger den bæredygtige udvikling. Klimatilpasning og omkostningerne derved skal også være en integreret del af EU's industristrategi", udtaler Dimitris Dimitriadis, EØSU's ordfører for denne udtalelse.
For at EU kan blive en global standardsætter inden for bæredygtig finansiering, bør Kommissionen sætte barren højt og følge videnskabeligt baserede principper samt principperne om teknologineutralitet, herunder i EU-klassificeringssystemet. (mr)
