Zivilcourage und Anti-Rassismus-Arbeit (ZARA) - Racism Report 2020

'Zivilcourage und Anti-Rassismus-Arbeit' ("Civil Courage and Anti-Racism-Work", ZARA) is an Austrian civil society organisation founded in 1999, providing counselling to victims and witnesses of racist incidents.

In its 2020 annual racism report, ZARA publishes a broad selection of racist incidents from all spheres of life in Austria that have been reported to the NGO in the previous year. This report from 2020 includes 45 anonymised case reports of racist incidents that occurred:

  • online;
  • in the public sphere;
  • in relation to access to goods and services;
  • within administrative public bodies;
  • in politics and the media;
  • at the hands of the police;
  • in the workplace.

The report provides a mirror of Austrian society, and gives an impression about everyday racism in the country.
