The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Področje digitalni financ je treba nujno urediti in Evropska komisija je glede tega ubrala pravo pot. To je glavno sporočilo treh mnenj, ki jih je EESO sprejel na februarskem plenarnem zasedanju. V njih je podprl najnovejše predloge Komisije o ureditvi sektorja digitalnih financ.
V mnenju, ki sta ga pripravila Petru Sorin Dandea in Jörg Freiherr Frank von Fürstenwert, je podprl predlog Komisije o strategiji za digitalne finance in poudaril, da se je treba odločno lotiti največjih izzivov v finančnem sektorju EU, ki jih prinaša digitalizacija. Ta odpira mnoge priložnosti, vendar je povezana tudi s tveganji, ki jih ne moremo prezreti in zahtevajo hiter odziv.
Podobno stališče je izraženo v mnenju, ki ga je pripravil Giuseppe Guerini. V njem je EESO podprl pobudi Komisije o trgih in kriptoimetjih ter o pilotni ureditvi za tržne infrastrukture na podlagi tehnologije razpršene evidence. Ukrepi na tem področju so izredno nujni za ureditev tehnologije, ki je vse bolj razširjena, se v praksi čedalje pogosteje uporablja, hkrati pa se nenehno razvija in hitro spreminja.
V tretjem mnenju, ki ga je pripravil Antonio García del Riego, pa je EESO podprl predlog Komisije o digitalni operativni odpornosti (DORA), saj je njegov namen zagotoviti pravno jasnost glede določb o tveganju v zvezi z IKT, zmanjšati regulativno kompleksnost, uvesti skupne standarde za zmanjševanje tveganj v zvezi z IKT in usklajen nadzor, hkrati pa finančnim podjetjem in ponudnikom storitev IKT zagotoviti pravno varnost in zaščitne ukrepe.
