The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.

Inflacija v Evropski uniji je najvišja, odkar je bil uveden euro. Trenutno revščina in socialna izključenost ogrožata 96,5 milijona Evropejcev. Ti ljudje najbolj trpijo zaradi splošne podražitve blaga in storitev, naraščajočih stroškov energije in izgube kupne moči.
To je le nekaj zaskrbljujočih podatkov, ki jih je poročevalec Felipe Medina Martín razkril v mnenju EESO, sprejetem na julijskem plenarnem zasedanju.
Vpliv energetske krize na evropsko gospodarstvo je resen. Visoke cene energije, surovin, storitev in industrijskega blaga so povzročile visoko inflacijo, oslabile gospodarsko rast in pomenijo velik pritisk na javne finance in podjetja, kar slabi zunanjo gospodarsko konkurenčnost.
Da bo ta trend mogoče obrniti, so po mnenju EESO potrebni načrti za zmanjšanje učinka visokih cen energije, namenjeni gospodinjstvom in ključnim sektorjem (agroživilski, prometni, maloprodajni itd.), zato poziva evropske institucije, naj vzpostavijo nadzorne mehanizme. Prihodnje politike bi morale biti prilagojene, ciljno usmerjene in primerne za prehod ter podpirati zlasti družine z nižjimi dohodki in večjimi težavami.
Nekateri nacionalni ukrepi za nadzor cen so se izkazali kot najprimernejši za ublažitev učinkov visokih cen osnovnih proizvodov na proračune družin. T. i. iberska izjema v sistemu cen na trgu električne energije je Španiji in Portugalski omogočila, da omejita ceno plina v obratih za proizvodnjo električne energije in tako občutno znižata stroške. Še en primer je začasno znižanje DDV na cene električne energije, hrano in gorivo, ki je bilo sprejeto v nekaterih državah članicah. (mp)
