The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions, evaluation and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Cilj odziva EU na krizo zaradi cen energije bi morala biti zaščita vseh gospodinjstev in podjetij, ki se soočajo z velikimi težavami pri plačevanju računov za energijo. To je glavno sporočilo mnenja o ekonomski politiki euroobmočja (2023), ki ga je EESO sprejel na januarskem plenarnem zasedanju.
EESO podpira predlog Evropske komisije za zaščito najranljivejših, katerega del je dvostopenjsko določanje cen: ranljivi potrošniki bodo do določene ravni porabe energije plačali ceno, ki je nižja od tržne cene.
Odbor pa opozarja, da bi morala ta politika zajemati tako ljudi pod pragom revščine kot tiste v spodnjem srednjem razredu, ki jim bo tudi težko plačati račune za energijo po tržnih cenah.
Poročevalec za to mnenje, Petru Sorin Dandea, je dejal: „Zima 2022–2023 je v Uniji povzročila velike težave. Dvostopenjska politika Komisije mora biti vključujoča, če želimo ranljiva gospodinjstva resnično zaščititi pred krizo zaradi cen energije.“
EESO podpira predlog Komisije, da bi morale države članice uporabiti začasni krizni okvir za državno pomoč, da bi se izognili ohromitvi poslovnih dejavnosti, in države članice poziva, naj uporabijo vsa možna sredstva za pomoč podjetjem, zlasti malim in srednjim podjetjem.
Evropska centralna banka je za omejitev inflacije uporabila orodja monetarne politike, vendar je to lahko uspešno le, če države euroobmočja s tem uskladijo svojo fiskalno politiko. (mp)
