2022 – A Year in Review

This brochure sets out some of the highlights of the European Economic and Social Committee’s work in 2022, illustrating its recent actions and achievements to fulfil the mission it was given 65 years ago.

Challenged with the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and the return of war to Europe - with the Russian aggression against Ukraine - the EU saw its values and safety endangered. However, these threatening events only made it clear that the EU must remain an actor with a single voice: a voice of unity, freedom and democracy, representing close to 450 million citizens. In that frame, the EESC further consolidated its role as a bridge between organized civil society and EU institutions' policy-makers, always putting citizens at the heart of its opinions, publications and activities, notably by promoting and participating in the Conference on the Future of Europe and supporting the Ukrainian civil society.
