Fundamental rights and the rule of law – Report on the visit to Cyprus

On 25 and 26 November 2021, six EESC members took part in the country visit to Cyprus. The delegation met with several representatives of civil society, including Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), social partners, and the media on the one hand, and the Cyprus authorities on the other one, to discuss the situation of fundamental rights and rule of law in the country.

The above mentioned meetings were framed under the five following themes:

  • Fundamental rights related to social partners
  • Freedom of association and freedom of assembly
  • Freedom of expression and freedom of the media
  • Non-discrimination
  • The Rule of law

The input received during the meetings has been included in a report drafted by the members of the delegation, this report has been communicated to the Cyprus authorities, who in turn submitted their reply.
