The Social Summit in Porto on 7 May 2021 provides a unique opportunity for the EU to place citizens squarely at the centre of the European project. It is an opportunity to demonstrate that the EU and Member States act together with its citizens and for their well-being, leaving nobody behind.
At its plenary session of 27 and 28 April 2021 (meeting of 27 April), the European Economic and Social Committee adopted the following resolution by 228 votes to 1with 5 abstentions.

The EESC has adopted a number of opinions, resolutions and declarations on the NextGenerationEU Recovery Plan and its various components, in particular the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). The Committee has expressed its agreement with its content and the direction of the reform proposals, which are intended to boost economic and social recovery and trigger a change in the production model.
Der EWSA verurteilt auf das Schärfste die anhaltenden Verletzungen der Menschenrechte und der Rechtsstaatlichkeit in Belarus seit den Präsidentschaftswahlen, die weder frei noch fair waren. Der breite Einsatz von massiver Gewalt und Folter gegen friedliche Demonstranten, insbesondere Frauen und Jugendliche, und die nicht abreißenden, willkürlichen und unbegründeten Festnahmen und Inhaftierungen dürfen nicht ungestraft bleiben.
The EESC adopted its contribution to the 2021 European Commission work programme on 16 July 2020, with a very broad consensus. The document links the priorities already identified in the EESC resolution on post-Covid 19 recovery and reconstruction with the six Headline ambitions defined by the EC President von der Leyen.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is deeply disappointed about EU leaders’ decision to further postpone opening accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania at the European Council of 17-18 October, due to the lack of unanimity between the Members States.
The EESC adopted its contribution to the 2020 European Commission work programme and beyond on 30 October 2019. Sustainable development must be at the heart of the future of Europe. The EESC calls for an overarching EU 2050 strategy to implement the 2030 Agenda.
EESC resolution urges civil society to turn out in force at European elections and vote for a united Europe
The EESC's plenary session on 15 May adopted a resolution calling on all EU citizens to turn out at the forthcoming European elections and vote in favour of a united Europe. The Committee also invited civil society organisations to join efforts to mobilise voters. Read the full text here.
