Coordinated Plan on the development of Artificial Intelligence in Europe
Key points
The EESC:
- stresses that the development and uptake of AI must be inclusive as regards civil society actors, including enterprises, workers and consumers, and must take place in line with EU values and in compliance with consumer, labour and company related legislation;
- endorses the initiatives to allocate more funding to AI-related innovation, infrastructure, education and training via EU financing instruments;
- calls for a favourable business environment including an enabling and stable policy and regulatory framework that stimulates AI innovation and investment;
- urges the facilitation of access to public data and calls for supportive conditions for the establishment of European digital platforms;
- urges Member States to adapt their education systems to the new skills demand, which requires reforms from primary schools to universities;
- has considered the reinforcement of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund as a step towards a fully-fledged European transition fund to help manage digital transformation;
- suggests that the EU adopt the framework of sustainable development as a guiding approach for future AI developments.
